Postpartum women process stress differently from females who have not recently given birth. This is according to new research published in the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, which found new mothers tend to show less interest in threats that are not related to their newborn.

Investigators from Indiana University’s Kinsey Institute and the University of Zurich suggested these alterations to neuroendocrine circuitry may result in new mums being better able to cope with the extra stresses that accompany new babies.
